Merry Christmas from La Belle!

Happy, happy Christmas, that can win us back to the delusions of our childish days;
that can recall to the old man the pleasures of his youth;
that can transport the sailor and the traveller,
thousands of miles away, back to his own fire-side and his quiet home!
~ Charles Dickens, The Pickwick Papers

In December, I am continuing to participate in the Two Pages-a-Day writing challenge.  Hopefully I’ve found my Christmas spirit by now.

O Christmas Tree, How Scary It Is to Chop You!

A severed foot is the ultimate stocking stuffer.
~ Mitch Hedberg

In December, I am continuing to participate in the Two Pages-a-Day writing challenge.  And STILL trying desperately to get into the holiday mood.

C
hainsaws scare the sap out of me.

Here I am, working on building my organic hobby farm and I can’t handle using a chainsaw.

Drills. Sanders.  Weed whackers.  Mowers.  Nail guns.  Wood chippers.  I love them all.

But chainsaws freak me out.

Visions of limbs (not from a tree) dance in my head and away from my body, where they flop in a pool of blood.

I like my arms.  And my hands.  I like them where they are right now.  I would not like them on the ground, apart from me.

However, if I want to have a real Christmas tree this year, that means once I get it home, I’ll have to cut off the bottom of the trunk to

a) get the sap flowing again and feed the tree, and
b) fit the tree into the tree stand.

Just using a hand saw last year cost me a nick in my thumb.  Granted, I kept my thumb, but still.  What’s a single girl to do?  Ask her friendly neighborhood Garden center guys to chop it for her!

Or just get a fake tree and forgo the severed foot.  Or hand.

Do you fake tree it or go for the real tree?

Top Five Friday: Christmas Insanity - Laugh or You'll Cry

We have now left Reason and Sanity Junction.
Next stop, Looneyville.
~ Jim Butcher, Grave Peril

In December, I am continuing (barely) to participate in the Two Pages-a-Day writing challenge.  And trying desperately to get in a holiday mood.

T
he best of intentions.  That’s what I had.  I wasn’t going to let the holidays get away from me this year.  I even sat down and made a list and checked it twice, and sent out my first batch of Christmas cards the first week of December.

I was on a roll.

And then I fell off the roll and it rolled over me.

Le sigh.

So I powered through the rest of my mailing list, signed, licked, and stamped like a boss (or Santa on crack) and now I’m looking at the clock and thinking: “Where the heck did the morning go?!  I still have X, Y, and Z to get done!”

Such are the holidays.

Honestly, I don’t know why.  I think perhaps it’s the stress of it all.  That and poor planning on my part plus a hearty helping of the blahs and the bah humbugs this year.

And since I know many of you are also struggling this year, my Top Five list today is all about making you laugh, if only for a moment.

 And last but not least:

And now I’m off to brave the Orcs, er, holiday shoppers, and spend some quality time with friends, and one sexy dwarf and dragon.

Holidays getting you down?  It’s almost here and almost over!
